SEIFA

Australian Bureau of Statistics derives indices of relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage/Advantage for Areas (SEIFA) using a variety of social and economic variable from the 2001 census.
The index is calculated at an area level representing approxiamately 200 households (collection district).
The WA average SEIFA disadvantage index score is 997. A low score indicates that an area has many low-income families, high levels of unemployment, people with little training and working in unskilled occupations, etc.
